STREET DESIGN
Parklets Qro.
Did you know that streets and sidewalks represent less than 25% of the total area of Querétaro City?
Even though they are an essential part of our daily experience, most of their surfaces were reduced during the second half of the last century to make more space for cars, leaving us with unsafe and inefficient pedestrian spaces.

In collaboration with La Jabonera we tried to find a solution for this situation through the initiative "Parklets" from the program Querétaro Creativo.
We proposed designing a parklet to humanize the streets and reclaim the pavement taken up by parking spaces.
Location
The Barrio del Tepetate is one of the oldest neighborhoods located in the center of Querétaro. It is characterized by its market and the museum of the old railway station "Antigua Estación del Ferrocarril". Nowadays, it also houses several establishments such as bars, restaurants and parking lots.
Moreover, this neighborhood is the passing place for many migrants traveling from Central America to the United States whom arrive to the station to rest before resuming their trip.

A parklet in this location would change the paradigm in this area, by bringing in appropriate urban furniture which would satisfy people’s needs.
In addition, it would boost nearby business by attracting more people as it would offer a place for socializing and relaxing. Furthermore, a parklet in this location would not interfere with the access to residential areas.
